What the BTTS number represents
Both teams to score resolves as Yes when each side finds the net at least once. It ignores the result entirely: a 4-3 and a 1-1 settle identically.
Our BTTS probability is the combined chance of every scoreline where neither number is zero. In a typical league fixture that sits somewhere between 45% and 60%, and it rarely goes beyond 70% however open the two teams look.
Defences drive the number
A high BTTS probability usually reflects two leaky defences rather than two great attacks. A side that concedes in almost every match will push BTTS up even if its own scoring is modest, because the market only needs one goal from each team.
The reverse is the classic BTTS-No profile: a strong defence with regular clean sheets facing a team that struggles to convert chances. Clean-sheet counts are the single most useful raw statistic on this market.
Sample size and context
A note that a team has hit BTTS in eight of its last ten games is close to meaningless without knowing who they played. Ten matches is a small sample, and fixture difficulty swings the rate substantially.
Read BTTS rates alongside the competition's baseline. Leagues differ significantly in how often both teams score, so a 58% team rate is unremarkable in a high-scoring division and notable in a defensive one.
